What is De-escalate To Safe State and Why Should You or Your Employees Take a De-escalation Training Course?
De-escalate to Safe State is our first and best tool to calm a stressful and potentially dangerous situation. The program teaches empathy over judgment, patience, thoughtfulness, mindfulness, active listening, and self-control. By using verbal and non-verbal cues, many situations can be de-escalated to a peaceful state, which would otherwise have become dangerous for all involved. The DESS program teaches an effective, hands-free approach to bring the agitated, confused, or inebriated patient back to Safe State. This training program provides invaluable de-escalation skills employees can use inside and outside the workplace.

About The DESS De-escalation Technique
The DESS technique and approach was developed by first responders with over 20 years of experience in law enforcement, crisis intervention, behavioral health, mental health, addiction, and recovery fields. The DESS empathetic approach to de-escalation teaches staff important verbal skills, such as establishing common ground with patients and keeping the line of communication neutral and open. Focusing on nonviolent, effective communication, the worker and patient’s well-being is prioritized.
Learning Outcomes
Staff will also learn invaluable non-verbal skills, such as softening their body language and nonverbal communication, as well as respecting the client's personal space, which are important non-escalation tactics. DESS identifies and solves a variety of pitfalls that professionals fall into during a long and difficult shift, such as fatigue. DESS teaches patience, listening, and the ability to adjust their approach accordingly to the client's cues.

Why Work with ITTC for Employee
De-escalation Training?
We Focus on Prevention and De-escalation First
We prioritize preventative measures and de-escalation techniques, placing hands-on tactics as a secondary option. Other programs can be more law enforcement-based, focusing on what to do when situations go completely wrong, and self-defense becomes necessary. While our programs ensure our trainees exhaust all nonviolent options first, to keep themselves and their colleagues safe. We emphasize that non-escalation tactics be employed when interacting with a challenging individual, but other programs only offer tactics after a situation becomes unmanageable.
We Have Niche Experience in Healthcare, Hospital, and Office Settings
We have been exclusively dedicated to the hospital and office workers, tailoring our training to hyper-relevant experiences. Other programs provide more generic training that may not be as relevant to the unique challenges faced in hospital and office settings. We also offer state specific training for California, Texas & New Jersey employees.
We Have Field Experience
Our trainers include martial artists, law enforcement officers, and hospital staff, ensuring up-to-date and practical training methods. We employ trainers and workers who understand how our training would work in the real world.
